Turkey pita

A turkey pita can be a cost-effective and healthy packed lunch for your child. Buy whole meal pitas though as these are much less processed. Spread some low-fat mayonnaise inside and add some lettuce leaves or spinach leaves.

To make it a little bit different pop in some raisins too. Then slice the cooked turkey breast and layer it within the pita. For dessert your child can have a slice of banana cake and an apple.

If your child prefers their apple chopped you can keep it fresh by preserving it in lemon juice and wrapping it in a paper towel.

Ingredients:

1 cup cooked turkey breast or chicken breast

1/4 cup shredded carrots

1 whole wheat pita bread

Some lettuce leaves

1/4 cup finely diced celery

1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions

1 slice tomato

1 sliced apple

1 teaspoon raisin

1/4 cup non-fat mayonnaise

1/4 tsp. celery seed

1/2 cup Fresh Cranberry Salsa

Directions:

Stir together the mayo, celery seed. Chop the turkey, celery, and green onions; then stir the turkey salad mixture together and season to taste with salt and fresh-ground black pepper.

Fist spread about 2 tablespoons Fresh Cranberry Salsa. On the bottom of each pita bread half. Then Stuff the pita with lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, and apple.

Then Stuff with about 3 tablespoons of the turkey salad mixture and raisin. Heat pita breads on both sides. Serve Pita with some sliced apple and carrot.

I think your children must like it. It is healthy recipe for kids.
