Tomato Chutney

Chutney i a side dish usually contain some mixture of spice(s) and vegetable(s) and/or fruit(s). It may be either dry or wet. Tomato Chutney is one of them. Like most South Indian recipes, this is a hot and spicy.  You cam take this with breakfast and meals.


3 medium tomatoes, chopped

1 tsp grated ginger

2-3 dry red chilis

Salt to taste

1/2 tsp hing

1 cups of water

3 tablespoons oil

pinch of turmeric

coriander leaves

1 tsp mustard seeds

8 to 10 curry leaves

1/2 tsp methi seeds


Heat the oil in a non-stick pan, add red chilis and methi seeds. Fry for a few seconds. Then add chopped tomatoes, garlic, grated ginger, curry leaves, turmeric powder and salt according to taste. Then fry it for 4-5 minutes.

Then allow cooling the mixture completely. Then grind the mixture with coriander leaves and hings for few seconds. Now you can collect the chunky tomato chutney from the blender.

Serve with rice or roti but you can serve it especially with dosa, idli or samosha.
