Ganesh chaturthi celebration witnesses with the preparation of lots of delicious dishes and one of them is Puran Poli. It is very famous dish of Maharashtra and is specially cooked on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
For the dough:
Wheat flour: 4 cups
Pure ghee: 4 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Water, enough to make dough
Chana dal: 2 cups
Jiggery (molasses): 1 cup
Saffron: a few strands
Cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon
Ghee for roasting
Sieve the flour and salt. add ghee into the flour, add water and knead it well to make a soft dough. Keep it aside.Soak the dal for two to three hours and pressure-cook it. Drain excess water and blend the dal in a grinder. Mash jiggery till lumps break.
Heat ghee in a pan. Add the dal and mashed jiggery .Add Cardamom powder mix well. Stir the mixture on a medium flame till it.
Stir continuously so that there are no lumps and you get a mixture of a smooth consistency.
Dissolve the saffron in a little water. Add it to the dal mixture. Let it cool.
Roll out a of the dough and make into a small round. Place the dal filling and fold the edges to seal it. Roll out the stuffed dough using a rolling pin as thin as you can.
