Dal palak or palak dal must be one of the most popular comfort foods in India. Everyone has their own version of this dish. Hot rice or tanduri roti and this dal makes one of the most soothing and fulfilling combination. I used to fry onion, tomato and add mashed dal, cooked palak to it. Though dal will be a thick consistency and healthy.
Palak – 2 bunches (chopped)
Onion – 2(chopped)
Tomatoes – 2(chopped)
Green chilies 3-4(chopped)
A pinch of turmeric
Chopped garlic 1 teaspoon
Chopped ginger 1 teaspoon
Pinch of asafetida (optional)
Salt as taste
Water as need
Cook toor dal with a pinch of turmeric and salt till it is well cooked. Mash it with a ladle.
Wash the palak and Cook it. You can use two cooker vessels to cook these two at a time. Heat oil. Add asafetida and cumin seeds. When cumin will crackle add garlic, ginger, green chilies and onions.
Fry till onions turn slightly brownish. Add tomato, and cook till tomatoes become slightly tender.
When it is cooked add mashed palak and cooked dal. Mix well. Boil for few minutes.
Remove from heat when they are well cooked. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or roti.
