The jackfruit is a species of tree in the artocarpus genus of the mulberry family. It is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia, and is believed to have originated in the southwestern rain forests of India. Mouthwatering jackfruit curry is a recipe with the flavors of tamarind, lentils, groundnuts and spices.
Always chose raw white in color jackfruit while preparing its curry. Gravy for jackfruit can be made in many ways, like popy seed gravy, tomato gravy or butter cream gravy.
You can make it boil or frying in oil. Both way are very tasty and tangy.
Potatoes 1 large
Tomatoes 2 (chopped)
Onions 2 (chopped)
Ginger 1 tspn chopped
Green chillies 2 (chopped)
Refined oil 2 tbspn
mustard seeds 1 tsp
split bengal gram 1 tsp
split black lentils 1 tsp
whole dry kashmiri red chilies 2
garlic 2 cloves (crushed)
coarsely powdered peanuts 2 tsp
a small bunch of curry leaves (kadi patta)
Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
coconut milk 1 cup
water 1 cup
Salt as taste
finely chopped coriander 1/2 cup for garnishing
Add turmeric in water and boil the jackfruit for around fifteen minutes till it is tender.
In a pan heat the oil then add the green chillies, chana dal, crossed peanut, urad dal, mustard seeds, whole red chilies, crushed garlic and curry leaves.
Once they start to crackle, add chopped onions. When color of onion is pink add chopped tomato, coconut milk and water.
Now add the boiled jackfruit and mix well till the gravy is thick. Add garam masala. Serve hot with steamed rice garnished with coriander
