Chutney i a side dish usually contain some mixture of spice(s) and vegetable(s) and/or fruit(s). It may be either dry or wet. It is mostly used in North India. There are so many varieties of chutney. Coconut Chutney is one of them.
2 cups grated coconut
1 tsp grated ginger
3/4 chopped green chillies
3/4 dry red chillies broken into pieces
2 tsp roasted channa dhal
1/2 tsp methi
Pinch of hing
1/4 teaspoon black mustard seed
1/2 cup water
Salt to taste
Peel coconut and cut into small pieces. Add roasted chana dal, salt, water, grated ginger, tomato, chopped green chillies with the coconut and blend into a smooth paste. Heat some oil in a pan. Add black mustard seeds and wait till they crack. Then add curry leaves, hing, methi and red chillies. Then pour it for sometimes. Add the coconut paste. Taste the chutney to adjust the salt.
Generally, Coconut Chutney is served with Idli and Dosas.
